Aladdin is a 1992 animated Disney film based on the Arabic folktale “Aladdin and the Magic Lamp”.
The movie follows the story of a young Arabic boy, Aladdin; a poor street urchin who spends his time stealing food from the marketplace in the city of Agrabah. His adventures begin when he meets a young girl who happens to be Princess Jasmine, who is forced to be married by her wacky yet estranged father. Aladdin’s luck suddenly changes when he retrieves a magical lamp from the Cave of Wonders. He finds and frees a genie trapped within the lamp, and the genie offers to grant him three wishes…….
The movie won 2 Oscars and at least 25 other awards.
In the past 25 years since the movie was released, a lot of things have changed, including the social and economic climate, which might affect the movie’s reception if it was released today.
So how would people react if Aladdin was released today? Well one Internet user has a few ideas:
How Buzzfeed would react:
Fox news would have a much different reaction:
CNN would probably push out more fake news:
Anita sarkeesian would make sure to give her opinion (The movie is sexist, obviously):
How Peta and the WestBoro Baptist church would react:
Cancerous Facebook pages like AJ+ would jump on the bandwagon:
The movie would be accused of homophobia:
Eventually, there’d be a change.org petition:
Eventually Disney would give up:
